JOANNE JOHNSON
Joanne Johnson’s small, passion-driven stained glass studio in Hinton, Lower Hunter Valley, is built on nearly 30 years of hands-on craftsmanship. Each piece is created using the traditional copper foiling technique, the same method used in Tiffany-style glasswork.
Every design starts as raw glass, carefully cut, ground, wrapped in copper foil, and soldered together piece by piece. It’s a slow, thoughtful process—and one she genuinely loves.
“For me, stained glass is more than just creating something beautiful. It’s about capturing light, colour, and feeling in a way that transforms a space. Each piece is completely handmade and unique, and I pour my heart and soul into every one. I believe my work to be quite different to usual leadlight and copper foiling with many of my pieces formed as 3 dimensional art works and often including driftwood, Australian cedar, hardwood and steel”.
