SHANNON STONE

After learning to weld at Coonabarabran TAFE, Shannon worked in the building industry and pottered with ceramics for a few years.
“I have been carving mud brick and stone since I was young,” he said.

Shannon had been creating metal pieces artistically for about six years when he met one of the country’s leading steel artists, Harrie Fasher, who convinced him to open his work to the world.

“I was helping her with an install, and she told me that if I could do work like that, I needed to start showing it’,” Shannon said. “Here was someone who really knew what they were doing and is really well accomplished, giving me that little push – saying it’s worthy, show it to people.”

Many “thousands of hours” later, Shannon had developed a series of works ready for exhibition – much to the patience and understanding of those closest to him.

Now living at Diamond Beach on the Mid North Coast, he encourages those interested in metal art to learn the basics and the rest will follow.
